Skuas on the Lehigh 2019

…And it is Mallard for the Win! This year we had the first ever Duck vs Boat start – and the Duck won with a clean start!
Sorry Fred! Better luck next time! Maybe Smokin’ Loon would have had a better odds!

The fourth annual Skuas on the Lehigh races were held at Allentown’s picturesque Adams Island on Saturday, June 8th, a day of picture-perfect weather for Cocktail Class racing! We had 12 racers & 10 boats competing in races conducted for five engine classes, one of which was a heat for the new 6 hp, 4-cycle Tohatsu class with Jaxson Shubert taking home his first First Place win in an adult class!

A sharp-eyed newspaper photographer at the event got a picture of the near disaster (for the duck – Fred’s OK), in the link above.

The race registrants included CCWBRA members from Pennsylvania, Connecticut & Virginia and veterans, Gretchen Granbery, Kim Granbery, Curt Bluefeld, Jeff Weeber, Julie Allerton, Jaxson Shubert, Darryl Kepler, Steve Brendlinger, Fred Allerton and Tom Kerr, along with relatively new racers to CCWBRA, Kelsie Odhner and Dan Lehner!

Thanks to all racers, volunteers, and support teams for making this year’s Skuas on the Lehigh races another fun and safe event.  Special thanks to Kimberly Shubert, who handles A LOT of peripheral details for all CCWBRA races.  And thanks to Adams Island’s governing board and friendly residents for making their wonderful tree-shaded facilities available to CCWBRA once more.

See you next year at Adams Island!
