COVID-19 UPDATE
Ahoy Shipmates, For those of you that know me, you can attest that I am rarely speechless. This Pandemic, that has put its clutches on every corner of the globe, has taken the wind from my sails. Like many of you, my focus has been on hunkering down with my family and trying to ride this storm out. I wish you and your families the very best during these uncertain and trying times. There will be blue skies and calm seas ahead, it’s just a matter of when. As disappointing as all of this has been to our die-hard competitors, their loyal fans (“family”), and our newest members, who were looking forward to putting new boats in the water and trying Cocktail Class Racing for the first time, we are first and foremost concerned with making sure that the events are safe for all of our members and that we are complying with local and state orders to stop the spread. As more information about social distancing and COVID-19 is released, we will put together a more clear plan as to what that means for the 2020 CCWBRA events. We started out 2020 with two special 10th Anniversary events in Florida, Governor’s Cup and MidWinter Regatta, in March. Results and pictures will be posted shortly. Due to COVID-19, recreational boating has since been completely shut down here on the East Coast and in many areas around the country. Per the Virginia and Pennsylvania Governor’s Executive Orders, the Race Directors for Urbanna Cup (May 30th) and Skuas on the Lehigh (June 13th) have decided to cancel these race events. The demonstration at the Wooden Boat Festival in Mystic, CT has been rescheduled for August 14th-16th, which is the weekend before Nationals in Rock Hall, MD. As 2020 is CCWBRA’s big 10th Anniversary, the plans for a very special Nationals 2020 event has been long underway. We will continue with those plans in hopes that by later in the Summer or Fall, we will be able to have a safe and fun Anniversary Celebration! No other cancellations or adjustments to our 2020 racing schedule have been made at this time. Race Directors will assess the situation as we get closer to each event and determine if we can safely proceed. *Please see our Calendar page for the most up-to-date information on each event. The Executive Committee and Board Members have voted to waive the March 30th deadline for existing members to pay Annual Dues before having to pay the extra $25. Annual Dues will remain at $50 for the remainder of 2020. On behalf of our Board of Directors and Executive Committee, we are thinking of all of our members during this time and hope that you and your families are staying safe and healthy. Don’t give up the ship! Commodore Capt. Peter Urbani |
