Powerboat racing has a long history at the Kent Island Yacht Club (KIYC), with roots dating back to the mid-1950s. While formal, high-speed racing experienced a hiatus in the 1980s, the Kent Narrows Racing Association (KNRA) revived the tradition around 1990, organizing events like “Thunder at the Narrows” to continue this long-standing local boating tradition.
The Cocktail Class Wooden Boat Racing Association (CCWBRA) held it’s first regatta at the Kent Island Yacht Club on July 15, 2017. Hosted by Bob Wallace and the Kent Island Yacht Club, this event was listed in PropTalk’s 2017 coverage. The association, founded in 2010, races 8-foot plywood boats based on a 1939 design.
We expect 15 or more racers in several classes with lunch, dinner and drinks available to contestants throughout the day in the club house or Tiki bar. Awards will be given after racing.
We intend to race a round robin in each class where 6 or more registrants are entered. We will maximize racing opportunities so everyone gets plenty of time on the water.
