Emory Fitts: I’m a big dude, about 250lbs. I’m not planning to race my boat, just get it built. but before i spend too much time on it, am i just gonna sink it?
Dave Goldner: Emory, several of our active racers are well over 225 lbs. and do quite well. I would recommend that you use at least 1/2 ” plywood for the floorboard and kneel on a very thick foam pad to absorb the shock. I’m sure you won’t have any trouble getting up on plane throwing your weight forward. I would recommend you get a very stout 8 HP or one of the post 79 class 6 HP motors. The class added the 8 HP since one of the founding fathers had a difficult time getting up on plane using an older 6 HP. I weigh around 200 and took my 70 lb. grandson for a ride and we got up on plane with my 6 HP and 8 HP motors. Needless to say my daughter and wife were not particularly pleased and threatened to call child protective services. Have fun!!!!
Emory Fitts: Thanks. I’d hate to slap it together just to have it sink!
