Update: The sides and bottom have multiple coats of Brightsides red now, they’re due for one more coat. We sanded aggressively between the first couple of coats, then lighty with 320 grit before the most recent coat.
After the final coat of red, the transom handles will be attached, the boat will be turned over, and the sanding and varnishing of the side rails, deck, cockpit, etc. will be done. I’ll varnish the undersides of the side rails before we turn it over, much easier that way.
Unfortunately, we ran out of time this season to get any more of it finished, too many other unrelated things going on. Our friend is in a new house in Annapolis with semi-heated garage and basement space, and we might put the boat in there this winter so we can continue the painting and varnishing in reasonable temperatures.
I’ll post a photo or two of red #150 next time.
An update that we still intend to finish this boat, but given what’s been going on and my pending move from Baltimore to Fredericksburg, Virginia (an unpleasant 100-mile drive down I95, except right now during the pandemic), I’m not sure when we’ll get back to work on it.
Nevertheless, the project is not abandoned, and we will eventually finish it. It’s about 85-90% completed at this time.
Glad to hear that you are still working on the boat Marty. Hopefully we will be racing some time this year.
Update: Transom handles and drain cocks have been installed, and deck and cockpit got their first two coats of varnish.
I just spent an hour uploading a detailed description and four photographs, but the CAPTCHA thing didn’t like my answer and vaporized the post. When I get over being annoyed about that, I’ll try it again.
We finally launched #150 this week at Codorus State Park in southern Pennsylvania with a Tohatsu 6hp motor. We need a better way to transport and launch it, will probably get a trailer.
Our CLC remote throttle kit for OMC outboards was not installed and not used, is for sale for much less than the CLC price, in the “Parts” section of the classifieds.
