Hello William. Here are the classes of motors legally ran on your Skua.
4.2.2 The Early (Pre 1976) Classic class shall be restricted to two-blade propellers.
4.2.3 The Late (1976-1979) Classic class allows propellers with either two or three blades.
4.2.4 Only three-blade propellers are permitted for the Post-1979 and 8-hp motors. The Early classics will be the slowest but progresses speed on down the list.
Maybe 15mph with an early classic. OMC motors only.
Maybe 18mph with Late classic. OMC motors only.
Maybe 21-23 with a post 6hp. OMC motors only.
Maybe 23-28 with an 8hp. Any make 8hp 2 or 4 stroke.
The Tohatsu 4 stroke 6hp runs maybe between a Late classic and a Post 79 6hp.
Hopes this helps

hotpachangaMemberHey there Andy. I have never heard of a unflex control box but maybe you mean ultraflex. I use ultraflex controls for all my motors. The rule book only states the certain model 6hp 4 stroke motors and props that must be used. Nothing about the controls, so I am sure you can use the ultraflex. It is a universal control box and you should be able to buy teleflex cables that will adapt to the tohatsu as I did for my Tohatsu 8hp. The standard length I believe is 8ft but you can get them made at 6ft and is a much cleaner look. Hopes this helps.

hotpachangaMemberHey Scot. There is all kinds of options to hold the paddle. I used some rubber holders. For the reinforcements I used the okoume mahogany .I used stainless blind nuts pushed into the reinforcements and epoxied them to the tank sides trapping the blind nut.The nut can never fall out. You have to of course have your control box, paddle mount etc for correct spacing while the epoxy dries . Will also need to run the bolts/screws out and clean with alcohol several times before the epoxy has cured to remove any that may have got on the threads. Just an idea and hope this helps.
hotpachangaMemberGlad to see some more racers coming aboard. Ken you want to run short shaft with the Cocktail racer.
hotpachangaMemberI contacted CLC for confirmation on ” If your boat is going to live in the water for days or weeks, you should consider using either a two-part linear polyurethane paint or an herbicidal bottom paint. Don’t use primer beneath Brightsides in areas that are fully immersed.” which is in their write up on the Brightsides paint. I asked them if this means do not use period or only if boat will be in the water for a longer period of time. I will give you the answer when thy reply.
